A challenger appears!

Posted by Nicolas (permalink)

For those of you who aren't really fond of scores and speed runs and don't regularly follow our challenges ladder either, be advised that there was some huge changes recently. During the last months, the scores were somewhat freezed and nothing changed significantly. But a newcomer appeared two week ago and now, he's slowly crushing every score, beating 10 time trials out of 14.

As you can see, Stimich seems to know how to think with portals more than anyone else. This run is particularly impressive. If you think you can stand up to him, feel free to try, but I think we reached some physical limits around these scores. I don't think someone will be able to do much better, apart if we're talking about some bots playing Portal: Prelude, of course.

Wow that guy's just flying

I'm not going to say he's a cheater, but that backwards bunny hop glitch seems really weird. Or is that something you guys stuck into your version?

Wow! I kept seeing posts from him on the forum RSS feed, but I never really realized he had beaten this many records.

Also, was the title of this post intended to be a Super Smash Bros. reference?

Anyway, congratulations to Stimich.

http://www.portalprelude.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1057 - I believe that explains how he didn't cheat. Nicolas, I'm not saying you're not doing your work thoroughly enough, but before you go to such drastic measures as BANNING I think you should check out the possibilities. I was at Stimich's house when he got one of his records. What I noticed was that the only program/app he had running was steam. I also noticed that he actually beat the record with his bear hands. Use source recorder yourself and tell me how the end result will become.

just a thought.

If he's been caught cheating and banned etc, shouldnt this be snipped out cos technically he doesnt deserve the credit and praise being given in this thread?

Well... few and raw things: I think you're taking your moderator's job too seriously, RELAX MAN.
Then, He did a 13sec and you can find it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKbRMrLWvKw go and watch all 9 minutes.
Finally: still saying that's a cheater, I'll still to think that you are a sad unskilled person.

Nicolas, speaking as an outsider*, I'm near 100% sure that you and your group of friends fucked up with the Stimich case. Among other things, you chose to cover your eyes and stay ignorant. And yes, I've read the threads on the forums and examined some of the videos myself.

(*)I played Portal a year ago, know about the time trials and Stimich through Youtube. Fast forward 1 year, I heard news about Portal 2, came back and search around then found out about this whole fiasco.

P.S. Looks like it's been a long time, Stimich and everyone have already moved on. But oh well I already wrote the comment, would be a waste to not post it.
