Portal: Prelude Forum

Hello I have downloaded Portal Prelude and it arrived in my steam games after installation but when I start it up it gets to the first part of the video at the startup then it crashes. I have Windows Vista and portal and steam so what seems to be the problem? Please respond I really want to play this game.

I've had exactly the same issue. I restarted Steam, it auto-updated and since then the bug is gone.

That didn't seem to work, and plus every time I close out of it when it says hl2.exe has stopped working, my taskbar is gone and I have to logoff and then log back on. You no, of course this bs has to happen to me.

right click on the game
propreties

then edit launch option

add :
-windowed

try to launch it again.

some tiems video drivers can take problem when configuration wasn't set properly and when use fullscrenn displaying mode.

but i solved it!!

set

-novid

in your launch options.

to get there,

right click the icon in your steamgames list,
click properties,
click "set launch options..."
type "-novid"
click "OK"

this causes it to skip the movie and avoid the problem!!!

my guess is that the video uses a codec that doesn´t like some soft/hardware configurations
and thus breaks the launch of the game.

(i also use this on TF2 to get a quicker launch)

(it delayed my game at first also for about 30 mins's)
then i remembered the command from TF2
(which i, by coincident found on a random website only a few weeks earlier)
