Re: Low Portal Quality

Wrong website, wrong forum, wrong game.
You are on the  Portal: Prelude Third Party Mod's Website, you question belongs to another game.

Re: Low Portal Quality

Yeah but still, we're using the assets and the engine from Portal, there's nothing we can explicitely do about this.
If I knew a solution, I would have shared it with you, but I don't know any, sorry.

Re: Low Portal Quality

If I may (I know it's the wrong forum for this, but...)
The portals look different because the two computers are using different DX software.  On my old desktop, the highest the game could run without extreme lag was DX8; thus, the portals had the simple gradient.  When I moved to my laptop, I could easily run DX9 and higher, so I saw the more stylized portal edges.  Finally, the edges seen in the trailer were, I believe, part of the Portal beta (not too sure of this, but I don't think I'm too far off).  The Project Beta team's trying to replicate these edges.
If your computer's naturally running the DX8 particles, then it would probably be best to leave them there.  If you really want, however, you can change the DX level from 8.5 to 9 by typing in the console:

Code:

mat_dxlevel 90

Wait for a minute or two for the game to unfreeze, then see what it's like.  If it's far too laggy, then you can go back to DX8.5 by typing:

Code:

mat_dxlevel 85

Hope this helps!

Also,if you use PPA (download here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WXE8QYXX ) it might work.
