Im new, I started playing today Portal and when I finished Stage 18 the screen turns black and I cant get into stage 19. why is that ?

Not a nooby question, I had the very same issue and it took me a long time to figure it out.
I had this very same issue. I also saw that:
-When I downloaded Portal, the peak download rate was displayed as around 8 terabits/second.
-When I finished level 18, I saw in the left hand side "Server cvar sv_cheats set to 0 Server cvar sv_cheats set to 1".
If the same things happened to you, your issue is that your download was corrupted and level 19 was never downloaded. So Portal thinks you've beaten the game at the end of 18. To fix that, you can re-download Portal.
