[fixme] Major Problem!
I've downloaded the game, loaded it up and after the domo sequence in the beginning it just sticks me at "Loading. . ." for literally upwards of 30 minutes
I haven't seen anything on this forum about this bug, and I'm wondering if I might have put something in a wrong file or if it's a download issue?
I put it in this directory: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\SourceMods\portal prelude
I've deleted and reinstalled Portal: Prelude twice now, same problem occurs.
Anything I can do?

Just some basic questions... Do you own portal? If you do, have you loaded it at least once?
I dunno, but just guessing that you might have problems loading if all the files haven't been 'unpacked'.

Actually just figured out that it's a problem with portal itself, not just prelude

I did the -dxlevel 8 trick, and i took of Zonealarm, worked fine until i was asked to walk through the first portal and bam - crashed.
not only that, the first portal was also blocky and glitched out, didn't look like a portal at all.
-edit- also, what should i set the -dxlevel back to, if not 8? I don't get what could be causing these portal glitches/crashes

just remove -dxlevel 8 from launch options (i assume thats where u put it) and it will go back to default (usually 9)

I have the same problem. I've done everything mentioned in this thread and I still can't get it to work. Everytime I go through a portal it crashes, and the portal is just a bunch of grey blocks and blocky blue/orange particles hover around it.
It worked fine yesterday. I got this problem this morning. I've reinstalled it and I've got a legal copy of Portal.
Any way to solve this problem?

i was having that kind of problem with the original portal. They way i fixed it was:
Set launch option to:
1. -windowed
OR
2. -autoconfig
try those one at a time
