Is the installer really nessary?

I absolutely HATE useless installers, especially ones that I can't open with winrar.  But I've begrudgingly run the installer for Prelude on my laptop.  Am I fine in just copying the 'SourceMods\portal prelude' folder over to my other computer or is Prelude different from other normal Source Mods and actually requires the installer?  Is it there just for people who can't figure out how to extract a zip file?

Is it there just for people who can't figure out how to extract a zip file and where to copy the content, and believe me, even with an installer, I got these questions.
