No, right as you pass through the portal, jump. It propels you just enough to clear it.

I figured out something that I think helps a lot. Go to the options menu and turn off "portal funnel". It's designed to pull you toward the center of a floor portal, so that it's harder to miss, but in order to get that extra bit of distance on this one, you have to land as close to the opposite tip of the portal as possible, so that you exit the portal as high as possible. Or at least that's why I think it helps. I spent ages trying to do this, then turned portal funnel off, and got it two tries later. Hope it helps!

* Put the exit (orange) portal at the top of the wall facing the big stairs.
* Fling yourself to the second step using a blue portal on the floor.
* Let the moving wall come out of the static wall and don't use it.
* Jump and keep crouching from the second step to the floor of the room and fire another blue portal just before you reach the floor (and keep pressing the forward button).
* That should do it.
Also, it is feasible with and without the Portal funnel.

All I can say is that this game is WAY harder than the original one.

Yeah just figured the difficulty curve wouldn't be like babbling brook to MOUNT DOOM!

To be perfectly frank, while the idea of making portal more challenging is commendable, I don't particularly like this approach. It doesn't really require more creativity, it just requires a tighter execution of an old puzzle solution. It's frustrating and tedious. I'm only on chamber 4, so I've yet to see the majority of the game, but I'm not particularly impressed with these first few chambers.

Then don't play?
The harder the obstacle, the better the feeling when overcoming it.

I was about to say that.
You didn't pay for it, you got it for FREE.
If you don't like it, just don't play it.
It's not because YOU don't like it, that EVERYONE don't like it.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say that it was BAD, in fact I am actually enjoying myself, what with the dialog, and the fact that I'm solving new Portal puzzles for free. I only meant to offer some small criticism, and clarify the difference between what I feel is fun difficulty and what I feel is annoying difficulty. I think I was just frustrated that I keep missing this damn platform by INCHES... grrrr.
Think I'll save it for the feedback forum. And finish it before I open my mouth again.

Ok, I admit it, when I finally landed that platform it felt pretty damn good.

What is the Portal funnel? Is that kind of like training wheels that help you when you jump for your portal and you keep missing the mark?

The key is KEEP PRESSING THE FORWARD BUTTON, as far as I can tell, this fling is impossible if you do not keep pressing the forward button

I solved the long jump in Chamber 3 by exploiting Havok's shoddy physics. Basically you can get one security camera in the chamber with the long jump. Take it with you on top of the platform that extends to hinder your efforts. You can use the newly extended platform as a trampoline. As you jump, drop the camera on top of yourself. With any luck, the physics will create a positive feedback loop and give you a nice boost as you're going through the portal in the floor.
You could also try putting the camera upright on top of the extended platform and then jumping off it. It's harder to pull off, in my opinion but also works.

MUCH EASIER WAY:
Ignore both moving walls, use the patch of wall that is in the top left that did not move. This allows you to loop thru the portals to gain speed, more like the real portal levels.

I got through using the "useless" wall.
I turned off the funnel. That helps with the"missed it by inches problem"
It is sad that the wall that moves out is "totally useless". Not at all. I put a blue prtal on the top wall part and an orange on a wall part near the entrance. I simple stepped through the orange one and came out through the blue one onto the "red herring" wall. Then I stepped off the "red herring" wall and shot an orange prtal below me, pressing crouch the whole time. ZOOOMM!!! I made it!
Yes this is harder than the first. But I am having more of a sense of accomplishment than I did before. Nicely done. These forums will be key in playing this!

That's how I got up there too.

You have to crouch in midair? *facepalm*
I kept trying what I know of flinging for about ten minutes. Then I finally gave up and used sv_gravity to get up...

Golly, I came here to suggest this, thinking no one thought of it. Heheh.
Well, this worked for me on the first time, so uh... try, folks.
