About Chamber 15 Challenge, least portals...

Has anyone figured it out yet?... I think I'm at a loss here...

I think I know how... but I don't want to believe it's THAT complicated.... since it involves jumping on the box dropper before the box drops then catching the cube as it falls, tossing the cube on the button, and then jumping back over all the edges back to the higher levels... O.o;;

Well, I hope it isn't this... Imo it would be lame if it would involve this trickery. Jumping on the edges, okey, but onto the box dropper? Lol

I've found another way as well, but it's not legit... so I guess we'll have to keep looking.

Re: About Chamber 15 Challenge, least portals...

As I was mentioning on youtube...

Here's the method I've found that SHOULD work (although I haven't confirmed it yet):

After you start, head down and grab the cube and place it on the button.  Now shoot your first portal on a nearby wall.  Shoot your second portal on the wall that is on the top level, by the visible button.  Walk through your portal, and then hit the button and quickly run to the next button on the top level that is now accessible behind the wall that moved and hit that.  Drop down and grab the cube.  Still going quickly, run to the room with the energy ball, and throw the cube up at the ball so that it bounces out of that room, into the main room, and to the catcher.  I've managed to make it bounce off the wall right next to the catcher, so I'm pretty sure it's possible.  It just takes a lot of luck (or skill, with being able to control where the energy ball goes).

I doubt this is the 'real' solution to get 2 portals and gold, but I'm fairly certain it can be a solution.

Re: About Chamber 15 Challenge, least portals...

i know how to do it with two...

i was considering what josh did, but i realised an "easier" way...

what u need to do is press the button to your left after you come out of the elevator to temporarily turn off the anti-portal stuff, shoot a potal just below the camera, so that the camera will fall off when another portal is made, but also so that the energy ball can through roughly the middle of it...
then go to the corner next to the door and put another portal there. quickly grab the camera as it is still falling...
grab the camer and orientate it upwards (you will need to experiment yourself to find the best orientation of the camera..)
next put the box on the button and press the button that causes the anti-grav thing to activate...
then run over to the wall that has moved and hold the camera at about head height, when the wall closes back up, release the camra...
now move the box on the button so that the energy ball can go past, then jump up, onto the camera (that can be tricky, so mke sure u save just before u try, cos it sometimes kills you...)
then jump up to the top level, press the button behind the wall, then jump down and using the box bump the energy ball into the reciever...

i havent actually done this yet, cos i spent a while figuring out what to do.... and i have managed to get up the top a few times, but each time my portal inside the releaser has been too high up... make sure the portal in that room is placed perfectly....

its a bit of a dodgy method, using the camera to keep the moving wall open... but i think it is the only way... (other than josh's method... but this would appear to be easier...)

I've been trying this, but figured it was too random and I really don't feel like trying that for several hours...

This sounds feasible, however to get up to the second level you'd have to abuse a small bug that allows you to jump higher from jammed objects (weird engine behaviour).  I find it hard to believe Nicolas would intend this as the solution.

I'm gonna try that anyway though, because the idea is very interesting.

Re: About Chamber 15 Challenge, least portals...

if u get the camer at the right height and angle, there isnt much of an extra high jumping... its actually quite hard to do, and if u did get any extra height from your jump it is normally away from where u want to go (well thats what i found at least...)

if this isnt the proper solution, then i am all out of ideas... :p

If you need help finding how to solve this chamber with 2 portals, I can do a walkthrough to help you.
Just tell me.

Well, I'd like to look a bit further myself... So if you give the solution, don't spoil it for those who want to find it themselves smile

15 has officially been solved legitimately in 2 portals.

It's not very random, it took about 10 minutes after I figured it out.
Proof is on the way, I'm uploading the video now but youtube won't take it for some reason.

Re: About Chamber 15 Challenge, least portals...

I just did it using the camera method, it wasn't easy, and you do have to abuse that bug or it will not work.... There is simply no way you can jump up to the higher level from the camera unless you get an extra bump from the camera.

Well, I'll tell you the strategy I used doesn't involve the camera and is very straightforward.

Indeed, no camera needed, just a crouch jump for me.

It's indeed one of the most difficult portal challenges.

Re: About Chamber 15 Challenge, least portals...

Nicolas what the hell did you do with all the moving parts in the second room of chamber 15?! It's insanity, I wasn't able to find any pattern, how many randoms are in the scripts of that?

It's rare that I get past it in one try, and some times there just seem to be no windows of opportunity.... This is especially the first par, the second and third aren't hard... but that first jump where you need to use that 'piston' to get up and to the other side  past the electric field and past the other 'piston'... these three need to be matched up pretty good or you won't ever get a jump trough...

I had an instance where the piston that goes up and the one that goes sideways were synchronous... so basically, when you got a chance (if you got any) to go up and past the electric field... You'd be squashed....

sad

I uploaded chamber 14 - 11 seconds, but it still won't let me upload the video of 2 portals on this challenge.  I might have to record it again, youtube just will NOT accept it for some reason.

I used a slightly different method, possibly a bit harder, but in principle the same.
