Kingpin's collected Portal: Prelude Speedruns (4-14)

Hi everyone, I am quite new to these forums (only signed up 2 days ago) and also new to Portal: Prelude however I am not new to playing portal. I have previously completed several speedruns, one of which uses Oob routes of the original portal and other speedruns on custom maps and both the portal advanced chambers and normal time challenges. I was interested in this mod as I first discovered it through Ozsource (an australian gaming website) and it seemed very refined and was the first mod that has come through for portal, well at least its the first completed mod I have seen. Anyway, I finished the game in about 2-3 hours on and off and I must say you guys did a great job. It was really quite a strange atmosphere revisiting aperture science labs before GLaDOS' domination and you guys pulled it off exactly as I pictured it!

But this is not what this thread is about. I recently completed speedruns of chambers 4-14 and from looking at others that have been done I think you may want to have a look at these. The only run that I believe is maxed out (cannot be done any faster) is chamber 4 as it is fairly linear. I have not yet completed chamber 15 onwards as I dont have enough time at the moment, but I will definately do those later. I also didn't do chamber 3 because I think it is pointless speedrunning. So here it is:

Chamber 4: 12 seconds

Description:
For this run I figured that the fastest way would just be to use a normal floor fling up to the other side of the chamber as there are no other portalable surfaces allowing any bypassing. At the start I used the falling object to give me a boost while I was ABHing, I'm not exactly sure how much time it saves but I am sure its worth it. I dont think this chamber could be done in 11 as I struggled to get a high 12.

Chamber 5: 20 seconds

Description:
Using the new route discovered by stan007stan I managed to cut it down to 20 seconds however this is no perfect run. Through many runs of this map I believe I can shave off another second by getting the angled fling more precise to make sure I dont waste time on the ledge. Also, I have a new trick for the start which might save some time. I think 18 seconds is possible but it would need to be optimized.

Chamber 7: 8 seconds

Description:
There is no doubt this is the fastest time you can get for this chamber as I simply go from A to B while ABHing, any faster would amaze me but i don't think it will happen.

Chamber 8: 15 seconds

Description:
The start of this chamber is by far the hardest part to do quickly as you either make it across the first room before the roof is too far down or you dont and then lose a lot of time. This part is also tricky because the ledge that has the turretsis not high enough to gain enough momentum just by jumping off and so I had to use the turrets as something to jump off in order to gain more height. Since making the first room is a rare occassion, I was very lucky to have done the second part smoothely. I think about 1 or 2 seconds can be saved on this chamber but it is by far the hardest one I have done so far.

Chamber 9: 11 seconds

Description:
This is probably the fastest time I am capable of but i think 10 is possible. The real trick is getting the bump quickly making sure you dont hit the edges of the portals. The rest is quite simple, I just peek-a-portal while standing on the opposite portals edge until I get to the door. Thanks to TehAwesome for finding this route, it is the fastest.

Chamber 10: 12 seconds

Description:
Pretty much maxed, all thanks to DemonStrate, I wouldnt have gotten this time if he didn't figure out this method!

Chamber 11: 13 seconds

Description:
I didn't really like running this chamber as it is very linear and there is only one set of things you need to do to pass it. There was one thing that made me laugh though and that was ABHing into the elevator pool under the actual elevator which allowed me to get about 3 seconds faster than normal as I didn't have to wait for it...lol

Chamber 12: 13 seconds

Description:
I liked playing this chamber mostly thanks to PhoX for using this route in his run...it works great! I think it is possible to get 12 seconds, maybe even 11 seeing as my start was quite sloppy and I flung myself higher than I needed to. Placing the last portal might also speed things up.

Chamber 13: 25 seconds

Description:
I just found a new route that can be taken on this chamber and it saves heaps of time but it is a bit harder as it requires a pretty advanced technique (jumping and peeking a re-entry portal). This new method allows you to enter the first room with the second cube right next to the button instead of having to fling it over to the button. Sometimes I even get the cube to land on the button however it's quite rare.

Chamber 14: 13 seconds

Description:
Not quite sure if I can get much faster than this, maybe just 1 second is possible but thats probably the limit of a human. Its just so much trouble getting the bump quickly and then doing the next fling quickly.

I hope you guys enjoy all of these and I hope that they will come in handy to anyone trying the time challenges. Also if anyone knows of any changes that can be made to improve the times, I'm listening.

Thanks.

Oh btw, why is there a Domo at the end of my chamber 8 speedrun????

Ahaha, that was awesome.
I think I'm gonna make a special page on the website for such speedruns, when things will calm down a bit, in a week.
Anyway, I fixed two bugs thanks to you: the domo at the end of chamber 8 and the elevator that you can go under if you're THIS fast.
Thanks!

These runs are awesome man! I already checked out some of them... very impressive. I'll check them all out, don't worry big_smile

@ NykO18: Whoa, the domo is a bug? big_smile I thought it was an easter egg haha! That's why I said it was an easter egg in the discription of my vid (the least portal run)

This is an easter-egg yes, but the elevator's door isn't supposed to open.
Back to topic now!

Re: Kingpin's collected Portal: Prelude Speedruns (4-14)

very impressive videos!

on a somewhat related note, would it be possible NykO18 to put the stuff so that challenegs can be done on levels in the advanced chambers??
that way if people want to record least step etc records they can, but the actual records dont need to be included... that way we can just make an extra folder, and a bns script and use that to record records...
do you understand what i mean? i think i explained it pretty craply... lol
