'New' Records for current challenges w/o requirements

thought i'd start this thread so Nyko could get an idea on where to place bronze/silver/gold for challenges on 15, 18, 19 etc.
just did 19 in 4:13  (253 seconds) - my best so far, sure it can be better, can get to lifts room at 3:00 or so.

--------------------------------------------------

[EDIT BY NYKO18]
For the moment, we only need these records to be made:
* Challenge 15 - Least STEPS
* Challenge 15 - Least TIME
* Challenge 18 - Least TIME
* Challenge 19 - Least STEPS
* Challenge 19 - Least TIME

--------------------------------------------------

to do steps/time challenges in the ones w/o them right now use this (as Nyko posted in another thread):

also just did chamber 19 steps in 245 steps, sure it can be greatly improved upon but an alright baseline to set up challenges.

Re: 'New' Records for current challenges w/o requirements

Still need least portal challenges?

I just did chamber 18 in 2 portals. Check the vid here

Don't know if you'll accept it 'cause I'm using a bug again big_smile

-DZJB

EDIT: well, more an exploit than a bug... and you can do the same thing in the original Portal game as well.

Re: 'New' Records for current challenges w/o requirements

No, that's not a valid solution.
We only accept solutions using the "normal" gameplay of Portal.
Thus, no strange camera use and no bug exploit.
But anyway, we already have the least portal record for the 18th chamber.

I think that the camera use was a great idea, and think it should be perfectly valid. If you don't want the cameras to be used in advanced puzzles, is it possible to just make them not able to move (aka, fall down)?

I dunno, I thought it was a great idea.

Thx wink, but I agree with NykO18. People should be able to get the golden award without this trickery. It's only natural that the devlopers want people to solve their puzzles the way they intented it to be solved.

In chamber 19 i just use the camera from the wall to push energy ball into energyballs holders. Was it "cheat" or not right?

that is not a cheat because you do not abuse engine limitations to accomplish something... If you would use a camera to keep a door open for instance you are violating the rule that the door is closed when the button is not pressed.

I just did chamber 18 with 3 portals... it's not incredibly hard once you know how to do it with 5

I actually think it might be possible to do it with 11 but I decided just not to try with the 2nd 2 turrets to shave of a portal because it was initially my first 'try' to use as little as possible on that level.

Yep, I thought of a similar thing. Hasn't worked out yet though. It's a bit like doing lvl 13 in 3 portals, just harder (if we're talking about the same thing anyway).

I'll stop about chamber 16 now, we're kinda going OT here... We can always make a new thread about this wink

Re: 'New' Records for current challenges w/o requirements

In Chamber 18 is anyone able to get the box to drop on the first platform that shows up?

No matter how fast i travel through portals to reach the switch, its always a split second too late.  I can do the room in one shot with a box on the platform, but waiting for the second one bumps my time up 20 secs, i cant get below 1:53!!!

Re: 'New' Records for current challenges w/o requirements

I am doing the timed runs of Chamber 15, 18, and 19. I only had enough time to get Chamber 15 done for tonight, but I will do Chamber 18 and Chamber 19 tomorrow night.

Chamber 15 I got approx. 1:35 as my time. It was tricky at some parts, like in the second room with the moving walls, and in the third room with the turrets, but its totally possible. I'm uploading the video to YouTube, and I will link here when it's done.

Edit:
Portal Prelude - Chamber 15 - Time Challenge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77uP0ok8Hys

Edit2: Just making sure that everyone knows there is a way to use the challenge mode via console commands.
sv_bonus_challenge 1: Portal Counter
sv_bonus_challenge 2: Step Counter
sv_bonus_challenge 3: Time Counter
sv_bonus_challenge 0: No Timer (Default)

Type one of these in before you load the map, and then it'll have the appropriate counter for that map.
