I thought if there is some obstacle like gas - it must be turn off or there must be another way to overcome this obstacle because it hurts. But when the gas does not hurts it is unnormal for traditional shooters.

I was a bit confused at that part too, just because it's something that doesn't do anything. Usually the player has to activate a switch, turn a valve, etc in order to continue, and it's usually something important. I kept wondering for the rest of the level what that valve did xD

I think this gas must do some damage, or we even doesent need this part of gameplay with valve, it is an extra element because in every game every move of the player must have some consequences, so when you go through gas without doing anything with valve - you must be punished, and if you turn the valve off - you must be reawarded. Punish=death, reward=you can go away.
If gas doesn`t hurt - than, NykO18, do the step forward in classical shooter mechanic.

In fact, that's a little joke from the team and especially me.
The game is so unforgetful and punitive that I wanted to see how players would react to something that would have killed them in every other game, but not in ours. Looks like it worked perfectly as intended

You definitely need to think outside the box ( or the cube ;P )
Atfirst, I was totally confused when the gas didn't do any damage, but now, I think it's a good idea, because I'm sure every gamer's first reaction was to close the valve. As a matter of fact, I actually closed it every single time I was there, and didn't even knew it didn't do any damage until very later on when I was doing time challenges there.

First what i did when i saw a gas in Portal(!): press F6 and step into gas, because I was very intrested in the result. Now, i think, my question is normal because there is not alot of games where gas isn`t huts (:
