Extreme lag at the boss fight. (Minor spoilers I guess)

I'm not sure if this is technically a bug or just a very GFX intensive scene, but this is my problem.

I get to the room where you switch GLaDOS on, watch the scene, hit the switch. She starts talking, and then right as she says something about "[finding] a better sound" the game locks up with extreme lag. It doesn't freeze, it still runs, just extremely slowly (about 1 frame per 2 seconds) with no sound whatsoever. I can't finish the game like this.

I have a somewhat old computer, but I can play pretty much any source game without problem as long as the graphics settings are turned down. I played through Prelude up until that point with no problems or lag.

If it matters, my specs are a 2.8Ghz Pentuim4, Radeon 9250 Gfx card (128MB), and 512MB of RAM.

I think it's a problem with the sound.... With me there is just a delay in sound right at that moment (as if it's loading the song/effects)

It's also a problem with your config, as you don't meet the minimum requirements to run the game without any problem.

Re: Extreme lag at the boss fight. (Minor spoilers I guess)

I didn't realize I fell short of the minimum requirements. Like I said, everything ran fine up until that point. Guess I can't expect to be able to game with this PC forever. I'm hoping to get a new GFX card and a 2GB RAM upgrade though, so there is still hope that I can finish the game!

Thanks for the help.

I would also strongly suggest buying one of the new i7 intel quad cores... a p4 is really old nowadays.

I've got a AMD 32x2, NVIDIA 8600 GT, and 3 gb of RAM.  I lag on the last boss fight (but not as bad as 1 fps 0.0) tongue

It just seems like a very graphic intensive scene to me.

The last Map, and boss battle, is pushing the limits of the source engine, this is explained in some detail in the commentaries, I suggest you listen & read those... it's quite interesting...

You must have a problem somewhere.
I'm using a single core AMD 2.4 Ghz, an old ATI X1950 and 2 GB of RAM and I don't get any lag at all.

It's playing a music that is inside a big soundfile.
That's an issue I tried to fix in the next update.
