We don't own Vista, so we can't verify, but you should not have to turn it off.
But I'd like you to keep us informed regarding this.

Could you give an example?
The script was corrected by a native english speaker, only a few sentences were not corrected because we would have to redo the whole lipsyncing and that's just not possible with all the problems we had to do it.

Meh... I guess I'll take notes next time I play... But it's more like there are often more 'proper' ways to say something.

Re: Todolist

It would be best if we have someone with at least C1 level English do it, I'm B2+ myself, and I'm guessing Nicolas is B1...

Here is more information about the grading system: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Eur … _Languages

Re: Todolist

I'll take notes on the dialogue mistakes if you want, but it would be easier if I had access to the script.

It's located in the resource folder of the mod.
The file is closecaption_english.txt

I'm editting it right now. I'm not completely proficient in English but I'm between B2 and C1 so that should at least be an improvement.

Should I send it over to you when I'm done?

Also, I guess I'll check the ones in my mothertongues while I'm at it.

Remember what I said about wrong use of language.. often it is not immediately wrong but there might be a better way to say the same thing... In this case I would make suggestions on how to change it rather than just change it... because the interpretation needs to stay the same.

I know what you mean. There were some parts which I did not change because I felt it would mean something completely different. I'm mainly changing things which just sound plain wrong and not just "weird".

By the way, I wouldn't touch the commentary section because I'm not proficient in french so I can't really tell if it's correct or not. I might take a look into it rergardless.

I also noticed some stuff that was off in the subtitles my mothertongue.

Re: Todolist

Hey guys, I was talking about voice acting a while ago, while i am C2 EASILY in english, I can correct some of the translated text, but I have a french fried that is C2 is english and speaks fluent french, so i will try and translate the dialogue to how i think it should be, but if you have the original in french, send that over because my friend can most likely derive the true intent of your words big_smile epischersieg@gmail.com
email the french dialogue there and i will get cracking on the english to the best of my ability.
thanks for the best mod i have ever seen

Re: Todolist

ehhhh just read the whole forum post....so it sounds like that there is more that one script file right? in that case there is a french one, whatever though, i'll just take a look when i get home, give me a couple days and i should be done smile but the reason why i think a fluent speaker in french and english would be good is that some of the jokes, i could clearly tell what there intent was, but the wording made me cringe at some parts, and a lot of it lacked emotion for some of the sarcasm needed. but overall the original script is really creative big_smile

Re: Todolist

Hi there, couldn't help but respond when I saw someone was in need of help with a script. Anything I can do to help, or has someone intervened successfully by now?

I'm extremely fluent in English and often proofread others work. If this has not already been done, just say and I'd be happy to take a look.

Re: Todolist

The problem with the script is not to find someone to fix it, but the need to re-record every changed voice, redo the corresponding choreographies in FacePoser plus the lipsyncing and re-translate the same script in the dozen of supported languages.
We COULD do it, but that's a hell of a hard work, and we believe the mod will most probably be left "as is". Believe me, I don't like the idea of giving up there and not try to obtain a perfect mod, but sometimes we all need to say "stop" because we can't do it anymore, willingly or not.

Re: Todolist

Oh, trust me, it's fine as it is, especially considering English is not your first language, and it is just about passable. It's certainly easy to overlook the majority of the mistakes, which mostly seem to happen toward the end of the game by the Aperture Science Enrichment Centre personnel.

For example, there was a line like: "GLaDOS has cut us off from our equipments!" That may not be it exactly, but it was a similar error. Whilst it does sound pretty bad, it's quickly over and you forget about it.

But it's not perfect, and it could be better. If you ever decide to do it, feel free to drop me an email for the English script...

By the way, it feels a little weird to be communicating directly with the maker of this game! Good for you for keeping in touch with the community!
