I use fraps registerd version, it's uncompressed but i convert it with virtualdub afterwords (wth a divx codec) so it gets smaller.

Btw, i managed to do chamber 18 again with 2 portals and the cube, not as fast as before, but atleast it got it tongue.

Or use the built in Source Recorder. Here's a very good Thread of using it: http://forums.facepunchstudios.com/show … p?t=148196

Why did you used the "in-game adventure version" of this chamber and not the challenge one?
In the challenges, no one is talking and making pauses, so you could gain even more time.
I'll keep your score, you just have to cut 20 seconds from it.

Lol. I didn't check to see if it existed. I'll redo the run tonight then. It only took me an hour anyway. I didn't bother to check if there was a challenge that existed already for the chamber.

Well, I just checked them, and they are all locked. I guess I had this bug too, even though I've beaten the game and beaten each map about 20 times now. I found that post about changing the .bns files so I'll see if that works.

Okay, changing the script worked. I'll redo Chamber 15, and do Chamber 18 and Chamber 19, and post those tonight.

Chamber 16 is possible with 9 Portals, but only by using a bug :]

Re: 'New' Records for current challenges w/o requirements

As I said in the first thread:

NykO18 wrote:

For the moment, we only need these records to be made:
* Challenge 15 - Least STEPS
* Challenge 15 - Least TIME
* Challenge 18 - Least TIME
* Challenge 19 - Least STEPS
* Challenge 19 - Least TIME

Don't forget that we already did portal challenges and that they're already released (apart from the 15th challenge, but we did it too). So, only step and time challenges are investigated here.

Nope, uploading vid in ~30 minutes.

Anyway, Nicolas, I beat chamber 16 using only 9 portals... I think that room is in for a small adjustment don't you think? Thats 4 less than what is required for the gold medal.

edit: It's taking a bit longer... I failed to select the right encode for my vid after editing so I ended up with a 200mb file, which is a bit much to upload.

Re: 'New' Records for current challenges w/o requirements

We're planning on releasing the update next week. Probably on wednesday.
And no DZJB, we can't change challenges that were already released. That wouldn't be fair, althrough I agree that the challenge is pretty much ruined on the 16th chamber. We missed a way to do it easier than what we thought, we'll probably decrease the gold to 11 instead of 13 (exceptionally).

Re: 'New' Records for current challenges w/o requirements

Okay. I've redone my Chamber 15 run with a new route in the first room, and used the actual Challenge's mode to complete the run. My time is approx. 1:09. Check it out:

Portal Prelude - Chamber 15 - Time Challenge V2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0avVg0RV_Hk

Edit: I have made 2 different versions of Chamber 18, one that is more of a 'realistic' route, and one that is tricky, but involves no glitches or external tricks of any kind, but a tricky beginning jump, which allows you to put the companion cube on the VERY FIRST platform that goes by, which I previously thought to be impossible. I'm capturing them, and uploading them shortly. The time for the 'realistic' route is 1:52 and the time for the 'trick jump' route is 1:29. Take your pick:

Theres nothing wrong with the v2, it's just an extremely hard jump.

Re: 'New' Records for current challenges w/o requirements

Yes, but I don't think the majority of people will be able to reproduce it. Because you need to make a really hard jump while grabbing the box in mid-air through a little hole and throw it away in a half second.
I think I'll choose the first Time Challenge (the regular way).

Re: 'New' Records for current challenges w/o requirements

I've finished planning the least step route on chamber 19, and done my first testrun. It was 123 steps, but it is far from beign perfected/recorded.
At the moment, I am unsure how far I want to go with it. If I'd make the last hole room without landing on any of the mooving platforms, the record could be even under 100 steps, wich would be really charming for the longest chamber, but this would take some additional training for me.
I'll see what I can do. In case of perfection, recording will be really a pain among the hundreds of quickloads tongue

Uh, it doesn't have to be perfect anyway.
Most people should be able to win gold medals with a bit of experience.

but I'm not going to make a vid this time, so use it as a reference for the final score
