Portal Alignment

If I place a floor portal and a roof portal one over the other (infinite loop) and i drop in facing north, I continue to face north. But if I have both portals on the floor and go in facing north, I come out facing South.

This is obviously a design choice to stop Portalling being a mindf**k when doing the infinite loop formation, but it really screws me when trying to place two on the floor. I went back to check and discovered that this does not happen in the master game, their must be a line of code that determines whether the portal is roof or floor and aligns it accordingly so that in both cases listed above, if you go in facing north, you come out facing north.

Sorry to throw an issue like this at you with no help, but I'm not a programmer, and it's a bit of a game breaker for me, if you can't fix it that's fine, i might be able to struggle on. But it would really, REALLY help if you guys could sort that out.

Apart from that brutally difficult, disturbing testing staff, and I'm loving it all. Keep up the good work

Okay. I had been convinced that I was merely doing something incorrect. But this did happen a few times to me as well in Chamber 9. Glad to hear it wasn't only me.

Re: Portal Alignment

It's strange, it seems to be happening to me only occasionally now, maybe I've just gotten used to it

Re: Portal Alignment

I can tell you why you come out in the other Portal facing south - because, when you placed the floor portal any way and placed the roof one, you turned your view by 180, resulting in the roof portal being flipped, and that's why you "freak out" when you come out of the roof portal. Try placing a portal in any way on the floor without having another one open, stand on it, and shoot the roof portal with just a BIT of rotation in, you'll see that it purely depends on HOW you place your portal.

[EDIT]: How do I know? I screwed around in Portal a LOT.

GLaDOS: The Weighted Companion Cube will never threaten to stab you.
*Companion Cube stabs Chell*
GLaDOS: WELL, I did NOT say it won't ever REALLY stab you, in fact, it is perfectly capable of doing so!

No, this isn't what happened. I'm 100% percent certain I did not turn 180 degrees when placing the second portal. And this was something that happened intermittently - if I was moving from portal to portal in a single string of movements, 6 times out of 7 I would face the correct direction, but 1 of those 7 times I would not. It had nothing to do with how I was placing the portals.
